Marc Cain's autumn/winter show featured a surprising urban hotspot sprayed with graffiti - as the official beauty expert, La Biosthétique supported him with the matching hairstyles and make-up.

The usual Berlin traffic chaos on Potsdamer Platz one Tuesday evening in January. Cars pushing through the crossroads. Some heading for the Brandenburg Gate; others crossing Leipziger Straße in the direction of Berlin-Mitte. Or heading over Potsdamer Straße to the former West Berlin and Kurfürstendamm. The blinding lights of the Sony Center and the Marriott Hotel mirrored in the light sleet that spread itself over the streets. A hub of inner city traffic. A few neon signs announced the Berlin Fashion Week. This autumn/winter 2018 season, almost 100,000 industry visitors, celebrities, models and influencers once again travelled to the capital to witness this.

Fashion in an underground tunnel

Traditionally, Marc Cain chooses unusual and impressive locations for his Fashion Week shows. This year, on Tuesday 16 January, the fashion titan from Bodelshausen welcomed his guests to the Potsdamer Platz underground station, with an atmosphere that was a blend of urban graffiti and an elegant lounge. It was very busy. On this Tuesday, however, there were no passengers rushing through the corridors. Above ground, on Potsdamer Platz, a huge Marc Cain balloon signposted the entrance. The Marc Cain guests took the escalators, which normally transport passengers to their platforms, to access the area created exclusively for this evening, a "members only" world, which was the motto of the evening and the name of the new Marc Cain collection.

45 years of Marc Cain

The German company, Marc Cain, was founded in 1973, and is an integral part of Berlin Fashion Week. Marc Cain shows attract celebrities from far and wide, and this evening too there were numerous front-row guests from film, music and television. "Members Only" was presented to the likes of Lena Meyer-Landrut, Stefanie Giesinger, Veronica Ferres, Yvonne Catterfeld, Frauke Ludowig, Victoria Swarovski and Lena Gercke, as well as the crème de la crème of German influencers. But Marc Cain not only has celebrities around the catwalk; some of them are also on the catwalk. On Tuesday evening, such celebrities included Victoria's Secret model Georgia Fowler. Fowler and her model colleagues presented an extensive portfolio of looks. Marc Cain once again combined sequins, fur, suits, checked patterns, floral patterns, outdoor jackets, bright and simple colours, transparent elements, silver appliqués, colourful leopard prints and elegant eveningwear. Not many labels manage to become a connoisseur across all fashion categories. This season, Marc Cain once again impressively demonstrated that he is among the few capable of this.

The stars behind the stars

A few hours before the first model was to float along the catwalk beneath Potsdamer Platz, there was not a single celebrity in sight. The backstage area was still the exclusive domain of the models and the secret stars of the evening: the La Biosthétique Hair- & Make-up Team. International Creative Director Alexander Dinter selected his Fashion Week team from the most experienced stylists of La Biosthétique salons all over the world. Within just a few days, they developed a beauty concept for the Marc Cain models, which perfectly emphasised the philosophy and look of the new collection. A few hours before the show, they were highly focused on getting more than 30 models ready at the same time. A gargantuan task that can only be completed by an outstanding team with a highly professional attitude when it comes to collaboration. Every step counts. With such little time to complete everything, the timing is crucial.

Modern City Girl

The inspiration for the make-up look was taken from the underground scenario of the location - the motto Modern City Girl - confident, young girls who are not afraid to wear fashion and make-up. To prepare the make-up we worked with our skincare products La Capsule Hydratant and Elixier Vitalité. We applied a base of Extreme Stay Foundation and Teint Correcteur. Earth Glow Gel in Doré was very softly blended over the cheeks to create a slight contour. Then we applied Magic Shadow in Cool Brown and Cappuccino to the eyes and Kajal Pencil for Eyes in Mocha Silk to the waterline. The thin eyeliner drawn along the lash line with Smart Liner in the shade "Brown Lilac" was paired with Perfect Volume Mascara in the complementary shade "Dark Plum". The final touch was added with our True Color Lipstick Baroque Rose, which was dabbed on to the lips with a finger, and the cupid's bow was given special emphasis with Glamour Kit Silver.

Urban Afro

"Marc Cain decided they wanted particularly courageous and confident hair. They requested a wild, afro-style look. We worked with just three products, and first applied Curl Protect & Style to dry hair, wrapped the hair in foil and then heated it with a straightening iron. To give the hair a bit of hold, we finished it with Formule Laque Fine. Botanique's Intense Styling Creme was then used as needed. It is wonderful as it gives the hair moisture and care, but is very matte. This styling gives the hair a special texture, which makes it unruly and frizzy, so it resembles an afro".

An eyecatching catwalk

The trade press and audience agreed: this look perfectly complements the fantastically diverse, modern and innovative new Marc Cain collection. This enabled the harmonious completion of the new styles of our long-standing cooperation partner Marc Cain, turning them into a combined work of art.
