Berlin Fashion Week

As Trend & Fashion Expert of the Berlin Fashion Week we accompanied with our team eight shows on two days (17. & 18.01.23).

Look forward to the hair & make-up looks for MARC CAIN as well as NEWEST, individually tailored to the respective collections and exclusively developed for Berlin Fashion Week. As a new showcase, NEWEST acts as a contemporary format to merge design, fashion and architecture.

Together with 40 stylists and make-up artists, Alexander Dinter and Steffen Zoll created the impressive beauty looks for the over 50 models. In a stroke of genius, Alexander Dinter provided fascinatingly uniform hairstyling that contrasted excitingly with MARC CAIN's multi-faceted fashion: all the models wore high-quality, black long-hair wigs that captivated with a striking 'edgy' graphic cut and eye-catching bangs. "After a long period of seeing a wide variety of hair looks in one runway show, it's a nice change to create a consistent and strong unified look," Alexander Dinter said of his inspiration. "Showing such an eccentric haircut for the collection premiere is a real statement for MARC CAIN. Ultimately, with more than 50 models, it's the only way to really show an identical look on each girl."

To further emphasize this uniformity in the beauty look, Steffen Zoll designed the make-up concept called "Beauty Avatar" for MARC CAIN. The basis of his look was a perfectly moisturized complexion perfected with Natural Skin Foundation. For an expressive eye look, he relied on eyebrows that were slightly enlarged with Automatic Pencil for Brows in Dark Brown. The use of longer, artificial lashes at the lower edge of the eyelid created an almost doll-like expression.

The second team of around 20, led by Alexander Dinter and Steffen Zoll, had seven further backstage assignments as exclusive Hair & Beauty Partner at NEWEST, a contemporary and curated showcase for fashion presentations and installations.* In the stilwerk KantGaragen, which has since become the scene location of the capital, the designer labels VORN, Dennis Chuene, ODEEH, Bobkova, DZHUS, Fassbender and Namilia showed their trend collections for the coming winter season.

DAY 1:

VORNE x NEWEST

The first day of Fashion Week started with the VORN editorial show. It underlined the focus of Berlin Fashion Week on sustainability and combined pieces from commercial brands with showstoppers from Berlin designers and independent brands in exciting mixes. Always in focus: personality and individuality. The made/unmade hair and make-up looks of the creative team perfectly complemented the progressive designs. Wet looks were on display, with hair styled out of the face as if by chance, or styled into the face like a curtain as an eye-catcher. Makeup in the style of "Avatar Beauty" was based on a fresh complexion shimmering in bronze, which showed special character through hard contouring with a dark foundation. Optionally, glued-on "piercing" stones at the root of the nose or single, extra-long lash extensions on the upper and/or lower eyelid created a dramatic eye look.

ODEEH x NEWEST

Another fashion highlight was the collection premiere of ODEEH. Designers Otto Drögsler and Jörg Ehrlich showed expressive pieces that were equally inspired by winter sports fashion of the 1930s and the jet set of the 1960s and 1970s: Coats and blouson styles featured vintage postcard advertising with ski motifs. Graphics, the focus and specialty of ODEEH, varied from large-scale wallpaper prints to minimalist computer designs to postcard patterns to ethnic-inspired graphics. The hairstyling focused primarily on individual naturalness: well-groomed, healthy hair was shown, which - mostly neatly parted - was refined only in its natural texture. The make-up in the style of "Après Glow" also followed the principle of "less is more". The well-moisturized transparent complexion was made to shine with a light glow alone to create an "as if kissed by the sun" effect.

BOBKOVA X NEWEST

All about femininity and the mission to tell the world about Ukrainian culture, to preserve and spread it, was the fashion presentation of Kristina Bobkova. The designer from Ukraine showed in her collection, for example, the iconic Ukrainian women's shirt reinterpreted in its dress form, as well as the plakhta, another famous element of traditional costume, reimagined as a modern wrap skirt. Naturalness and the play of perfection/imperfection was also reflected in the hair design, which mainly supported the natural features and hair textures of each model. "Plane", i.e. almost without make-up, was also the make-up look. Only softly shaped brows and a light shade on the eye underlined the models' natural style.

DAY 2:

DZHUS x NEWEST

Right at the beginning of the second Fashion Week day the collection premiere of the Ukrainian designer Irina Dzhus was celebrated. Her passion for innovative fashion, pure avant-garde and sustainability was also omnipresent in the current fashion line. The DZHUS H/W23 collection featured complexly cut multifunctional pieces that ranged from outerwear to accessories. Influenced by the war turmoil in her home country, Dzhus develops fashion to suit different purposes, weather conditions and dress codes. As exceptional as the fashions were the hairstyles. The key look impressed with a faux hair net draped around the model's head, hiding a supersleek bun underneath. The makeup, titled "The Touch," featured black handprints on a very natural, darkly contoured complexion.
